Volume vs Actual Weight
Carriers bill the greater of volume weight and actual weight. Light but large packages (e.g. pillows) bill by volume; small but heavy packages (e.g. books) bill by actual.
Volume weight = (W × H × D) / divisor
Billed = max(volume, actual) — rounded up
Tip
- PTT and UPS use 5000 divisor — ~40% cheaper than others for bulky items.
- Account for packaging: leave 1-2cm margin, don't compress.
- Vacuum-pack very light, bulky items (e.g. textiles) to reduce volume.
